There is not a very wide variety
of plants from Australia that are suitable
and recommended for lizards.
Eco-System: Rain Forest
Blechnum (Blechnum gibbum)
This plant is hard to take care of as it constantly
needs water, but is damaged if placed into water.
Ficus (Ficus rubiginosa)
The Ficus is a ground plant and like the Blechnum above,
is damaged if placed into water.
Screw-pine (Pandanus veitchii)
This plant is only suitable for large habitats, as they
grow quite large. The Screw-pine should be one of your
last choices though, as they have sharp thorns.
Staghorn Fern (Platycerium alcicorne)
This plant also needs a lot of water, and grows very
large. The Staghorn fern should only be used in very
large habitats.
Eco-System: Desert
False Aralia (Dizygotheca elegantissima)
This plant is very good for large terrestrial
lizards. The stalks are weak, and are
not a good idea to use for arboreal
lizard species.
Kangaroo Vine (Cissus antarctica)
This vine is perfect for all types of lizards, especially
arboreal species.
Silk Oak (Grevillea robusta)
The Silk Oak grows close to the ground, and gets very
large. |
