The scientific name of
the House Gecko is Hemidactylus frenatus.
These geckos are relatively small, around 4 to
6 inches, and are commonly found on the sides of buildings
in search of insects. Their distribution has spread
across the ocean to North America on boats, but are
originally from North Africa and Southeast Asia. The
House Gecko is a tropical lizard and they stay
in the southern states of the USA. Some other countries
include Philippines, Japan, Polynesia, Madagascar, Australia
and Taiwan.
When not in urban areas, the Asian House Gecko or Pacific
House Gecko, as they are also known, prefer living in
damp, humid and warm forested areas. In commonly looks
for insects and spiders on the forest floor and on rotting
wood.
