Native to the forests of the southern areas of Western
Ghats is the Orange-lipped Forest Lizard
(Calotes aurantolabium). Their only currently
known range is on the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.
The Orange-lipped Forest Lizard has
a green coloured body with orange coloured upper lips.
Their body, throat and head are all covered with acutely
keeled scales.
They are distinguished from other members of their
family by several features including their scales, toes
and the lack of na antehumeral pit. They were originally
included in the Calotes family with Calotes
andamanensis. |
